The graduate program of Economics at the Federal University of Pernambuco is among the pioneer programs in Brazil. Launched in 1967, the program is TOP 10 nationwide in terms of research productivity, according to CAPES (Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel), the Federal Government agency responsible for quality assurance in postgraduate institutions in Brazil. Most recently, the program has consolidated its academic environment and its role on the education of future economists, with a well-connected network of researchers and placements ranging from domestic positions with established academic reputation (Econ Departments, Central bank and think tanks)  to multilateral agencies, such as World Bank, IDB and UN.
