RESEARCH ACTIVITIES

Pier Luigi has been working on several research topics regarding Artificial Intelligence and Computer Vision. He has studied techniques and methodologies for multidimensional digital signals processing; linear and no-linear signal characterization; signal features extraction; supervised and unsupervised classification of the signal.

The most relevant topics, in which is he involved in, for the purpose of the proposed project are acquisition, processing and fusion of multisensory data coming from mobile agents, algorithms for object tracking and 3D trajectory reconstruction.

He has authored and co-authored of a total of 80 publications, including 10 papers published in international journals and book chapters. He has, also, co-authored 5 national and international patents.

He has taken part in several research projects financed by the National Operative Program (Italian PON). He has also written in some national and international projects. He has participated in a number of national and international scientific conferences. He has given a number of seminars at Italian institutions and foreign university (UK and USA). He co-organizes and he is a co-chair of the international Workshop on “Activity monitoring by multiple camera for surveillance systems”.

He has collaborated internationally with the Vision and robotics group of the Electronic Engineering and Computer science department at Queen Mary University of London directed by Prof. Andrea Cavallaro; with the communication and digital signal processing group of the Electrical and Electronic engineering department at the Imperial College of London directed by Prof. Danilo Mandic; with the Wireless Sensor Network Laboratory of the Electrical Engineering department at the Stanford University in California (USA) directed by the Prof. Amid Agajan; with the Computer Vision and Robotics laboratory of the Electrical engineering and computer science at San Diego University in California (USA) directed by the Prof. Mohan Trivedi.

He acts as a reviewer for several international journals and for some book publishers. Since 2004, Pier Luigi has been regularly invited to take part in the Scientific Committees of national and international conferences.

SOFTWARE AND TECHNICAL SKILLS

He has very strong Matlab, OpenCV, Dlib, skills. I use C++ as main Software developing multiplatform (Linux, Windows,..)language since 2002. All the allgorithm he created were tested and prototyped with Matlab (Image Processing Toolbox). Basing on the obtained results the algorithm are developed with C++ using OpenCV Libraries.
