He worked hard and found his calling when he was 17 years old - baking cakes in Hewlett Packard’s cafe as a part-time chef in 1983 under orders from then-boss Wong Kan Seng who eventually became Deputy Prime Minister of Singapore.
In 2000, he started his first pie shop at Far East Square.. which quickly grew to a sprawling restaurant opposite the street next door. This eventually expanded (a little too fast) and before long there were multiple branches both locally and overseas - all while keeping up with demand by cooking every day just for you!
In 2015 though, Chef Don Lim sold away that brand which has since changed hands many times over because when life gives us lemons we make Chicken Pies... and crab or prawn dishes as well so everyone can enjoy them too :)
In 2018 however, after years of missing being able bake pies again, he started Don's Pie & Cakes which instantly became a famous hit.
Fast forward to 2021. He partnered with his nephew to open up Chicken Pie Kitchen & Don Signature Crab at 39 Tyrwhitt Road. This is a place where you can enjoy both signature dishes made from scratch daily using high quality local ingredients alongside other seafood options such as prawns and crabs!
In Singapore, the best Chicken Pies are created by Chef Don Lim, who has been making chicken pies since 1983 during his time in HP. Chicken Pies are a British classic, and Shepherd's Pies are their close cousin. Both dishes are comfort food at their finest, and we are proud to say that our Chicken Pies and Shepherd's Pies are some of the best in Singapore.
Made with only the freshest ingredients, our pies are packed with flavour and sure to please even the most discerning palate. Our Cheesecakes and Rich Cakes are also standout favourites, and we bake them fresh daily using only the finest ingredients.
When you try our Chicken Pies, Shepherd's Pies, Cheesecakes, or Rich Cakes, you'll see why we take so much pride in our products!
For clarity purposes, we are not related to "Don Pie". That was Chef Don Lim's very first pie shop back in the year 2000. He sold it away in 2015 as he had grown the business too quickly and ran out of funds. In 2018, he started Don's Pie & Cake to sell his signature chicken pies as he wanted customers to be able to taste his original pies again.
