Hello all, I have tried this both ways by defining a range name in excel and linking to it and also using link to range in the Modify excel Link dialogue in Autocad. I am using AutoCad 2020, I have also tried this in 2017, 2018. It has never worked correctly for me, I hope there is some easy way of making this work. If you look at the images below you see the row doesn't update correctly, the extra row is on line 24 and DatalinkUpdate puts the extra row at the bottom and does not shift other rows down accordingly. I am using Version 16 excel also if that makes any difference. Thank you.

I've used a lot of excel/acad datalinks for quite a while, and having to insert or remove rows or columns in existing ranges is always a headache, especially if there are merged cells. The only thing I have found that works is to create a new table from the datalink. Sometimes "miraculously" the 1st (previously existing) table will then update correctly, but this is rare. Mostly I just replace the table in ACAD & move on...sorry this isn't much help (or none if you want to be precise).

The issue arises (for me) when updating the link in ACAD, the table will experience any of several glitches, including broken merged cells, text size shrinking (or growing), etc. Sometimes "repair" is possible using format painter, mostly not, and I have to insert a new table using the same datalink, re-do any re-sizing of rows/columns, and delete the broken table.

If i use data link as excel file and not AutoCad entities it works perfectly but then I don't get the control of Colors and so on.... I would like, and am determined to figure out how to make linking the excel range as AutoCad entities work correctly when updating.

I am getting an error when I datalink to an excel sheet. It is as shown in the attached. Also when using the datalink it seems to take a very long time to do this i.e. 1 link can take up to 5 minutes to complete. Not sure if it is due to this error and I have a setting wrong somewhere. My machine does not have an E drive.

Hi Thrullman, I've had loads of issues with this. The 1st option is to 'inspect' your excel workbook and fix excel 'compatibility' errors.

The second is to copy/paste the information you want into a blank, clean worksheet and workbook. This is because CAD is trying to read meaningless cell data from an entire book, adding commas all over the shop.

Granted, it's not ideal, but if you're using datalinks and you don't want BricsCAD to hang/crash, the above should help.

when i reffed it in (it is two pages in the same excel doc) i made them relative path, and had no issues with "download from source" via Data Link, but today after removing them and trying again due to them not updating, then being not found (the "..\" at the front of the relative path had gone missing) i cant get them in at all now; they simply show up in the x ref manager as "unreferenced" and there is nothing in the drawing.

Fast forward two weeks and all of a sudden I can't edit the data link any more. same file even. I have tried all the things Autodesk recommends as far as reinstalling office and making sure the excel version matches with the AutoCAD version (32 bit v 64 bit, I am running 64 bit). I am the only one reporting this issue across the company.

Another weird issue. I can open the excel table using the same right click menu I would use to edit or rename or delete the data link. But again for some reason I am unable to edit or start a new data link.

My efforts (Data-Get Data- From Other Source) saw a 2-column Table inserted in the .XLSX rather than the single column of data, so hoping this problem has been encountered before. ( I tried uploading a screenshot from Excel but was not allowed)

Once this datalink is set-up for a single Column, I need to replicate for all columns in an Excel sheet that read from OECD:QNA

Any pointers on setting API links gratefully received

Grateful for any pointers on refining the URL query string further

Also wondering to what extent setting up individual column Web API datalinks (as above) may significantly slow down the .XLSX operation/recalculation ???..and if so, how to optimise the data feed/update ?

I am creating a server topology for one of our SharePoint farms and thought it would be easy to just link the Excel spreadsheet with our server information to the Visio drawing to auto-populate some things. It didn't work out that well, but the drawing is finished without it now. I cannot remove the link between the Excel spreadsheet and the Visio diagram. Whenever the drawing is opened the linked excel server list opens in a pane at the very bottom of the window. How would I eliminate the data link? Or just the spreadsheet from view when being opened?

In this scenario, we have engineers who need to update a drawing list that happens to be an excel file (.xlsx) and they would like to link this to AutoCAD so that when they make changes to the table, those changes are included in the AutoCAD file.

I am using autocad 2014 and i am using data link manger but i am facing two problems as mentioned below

1. I can not link more than three sheets in a excel file but my requirement is to link a file which contains more than 3 sheets say 10 nos.

2. While linking a table which contain filter, can not be linked with desired output..i.e. Filtered cell also linked in autocad file.

Hi,

After linking the file, I updated the font, cell height and width as per my requirement in the CAD and then saved and closed (I am using Auto CAD 2016). Later when I re-open the CAD file all changes are lost, it is reset to some other format, not even as present in the excel file. Please help me to solve this.

hi everyone. i want to make drawing which is based on data in excel sheet that i have imported/ linked using this thread however i am unable to use that excel data to make drawing. is there any such option available in autocad?

Hi I have attributes which I ATTOUT exported as an excel file. I have data linked that excel file as discussed above and created my table. What I need help with is having my excel spreadsheet update when I change the attribute data without having to export a brand new excel file each time. Please help

I've just come across a weird situation. One of my colleagues has just had his PC updated to Excel 2010 and with it, upgraded to Datalink 4.2.1. He has an excel sheet which has worked perfectly well up to now, but for some reason, after his PC was upgrade he can no longer get data after a certain timestamp. The sheet has the timestamps for the month starting at the 1st of the month at 03:00 (3am to you and me), with all subsequent data at 4 hourly intervals. Simple so far.

The timestamps are configured as "$a57 + 4/24" ;the last cells timestamp + 4 hours. However, after the 12th day of the month the sheet no longer gets data. The sheet uses the PIarcval command with the retrieval mode set as "exact time". I've traced it to a rounding error in Excel where the actual timestamp is out based on the millisecond value. For example a time stamp of 1-aug-2013 03:00:00 will return no data, but a timestamp of 1-aug-2013 03:00:00:00 will return a value. It seems that PI or excel is converting the 4/24 down to the millisecond, and the rounding error compounds itself through the cells until it reaches a point where the millisecond value skews the timestamp enough so that I can't get data as "exact time". ff782bc1db
