In April and May of 2020, when we were in lockdown because of the Coronavirus, Howard and I hung a different quilt outside our home every day for 45 days. Some days were too windy or rainy, but it was uplifting for me and a good job for my husband. Our friends and neighbors who drove or walked by every day were also entertained, and told me they looked forward to what would be next.

Cotton quilt, machine quilted 2020. 30 x 32 inches
The year 2020 found us struggling to find a new way to live, isolated and sometimes miserable. News in the world and country dominated our waking
moments. I countered my feelings of helplessness by putting up Black Lives Matter and Thank You to First Responders lawn signs and hanging my Quarantine Quilts. Inspired by Robert Indiana’s LOVE artwork, and many VOTE quilts I had seen on the internet, I made my own VOTE 2020 lawn sign for Election Day in November. And it worked!
