Chip Design

Three separate versions of the silicon photonic chip design were created using visual studio and KLayout. Each of the designs contains different 1-channel, 2-channel and 4-channel waveguides and diffraction gratings.

3D printed box (Tinkercad)

The 3D-printed box will carry the photonic spectrometer. It will also be used to protect the chip from outside light while the light source goes in and out of the box.

3D printed box (Final Version)

The final version of the 3D-printed box has been printed and can be used to hold the chip.

Raspberry Pi and camera sensor

A camera sensor is attached to the Raspberry Pi, used for gathering and analyzing data of the light spectrum using python code.

Early Design

An early design was made to replicate the photonic chip and test the code.

The light source shines through multiple lenses, mirrors, a collimator and a diffracting grating, allowing the Raspberry Pi camera to receive the spectrum of light in order to record the data and output.

Final Design

The final design incorporates the chip in the setup.
