Color changes of TiO2 were obtained by chemical oxidation of TiH2 with H2O2 , targeting a higher photocatalytic activity for pesticides, phenolic compounds, and drug degradation and mineralization under UV and/or solar irradiation.
A simple method to obtain Ti3+ is to oxidize TiH2 with hydrogen peroxide.
Synthesis method:
Step 1 - TiH2, water, and hydrogen peroxide 30% were vigorously stirred for 5 h till it changed to a yellowish gel-like state. The gel was kept for 24 hours at room temperature.
Step 2 - Hydrothermal synthesize for 24h at 160°C and 180°C
Step 3 - After being cooled to room temperature, the blue or light-blue precipitates were collected, washed three times with deionized water and absolute ethanol, centrifugated, and then dried in a vacuum oven at 80oC for 3 hours.
