Hi! Welcome to Classes by Mrs. Kageler. My name is Phoenix Kageler, and I'm glad you are interesting in joining my class. I am married to Clif Kageler, and we have three children. I am an immigrant from Vietnam. I came here to the States with my family (mom, dad, and 3 other siblings) in 1980 when I was only five years old. I was part of the Vietnamese Boat People, many of whom share similar stories of sacrifice and hard work in order to live out the American dream. I am grateful for my heritage and the sacrifices my parents made for us to be here. My maiden name is Chau, which has its origins in Guangzhou, China where my grandparents were born.
Having lived in various states, I was mostly raised in Mississippi where I attended Mississippi State University and graduated with a bachelor's and master's in civil engineering. While at Mississippi State University, the Lord called me into the Christian faith. I was blessed to receive good teaching and discipleship while in Mississippi before moving to Houston where I met my husband. Our children are blessed with both Asian, German, and native Texan influences.
My work experience as a structural engineer includes over thirteen years in construction and oil and gas industries. After this period of working, I have been homeschooling my children for the past nine years before teaching at ODA.
My hobbies include tennis and sewing. I play on competitive tennis leagues in Houston and am rated 4.0. I also have a small side business for sewing custom designs and alterations.
After having served in women's ministry at my church several years ago, the Lord put a strong desire me to attend seminary at Reformed Theological Seminary where I graduated with graduate certificates in the Old and New Testaments. It is my passion to share my faith and journey. Now I am able to offer various classes including engineering, math, and now Biblical studies. I would be so glad to have your student!
