Final CAS Reflection, May 2019
Ultimately, through my dedication to the CAS program, I was able to become a much more conscious and globally minded person, while also improving my own personal skills for relating to others and living a generally healthy and purpose-driven life. I learned how to balance creativity, action, and service in the midst of a quite busy academic calendar, without forfeiting success in any one arena. In addition to specific skills which I learned or taught myself along the way, I also grew in my ability to work collaboratively with others without contention or conflagration. Through CAS activities such as my involvement in YWC I was able to gain leadership skills, and learned how to successfully divide and delegate larger problems. Through my CAS project organizing the piano recital, I learned how to work with multiple groups of people with multiple agendas, make decisions on-the-go, such as when not everyone shows up on time, and how to consider multiple perspectives when planning an event (in this case my own, the members of the retirement community, the workers at the retirement home, and my fellow performers). Because of the CAS program, I ultimately feel at ease in trying new things, even when they are challenging, and I look forward to utilizing the skills I have gained from CAS in the future.
