The PHN Laboratory conducts public health nutrition research and programs to collect and analyze nutritional factors related to disease prevention and management, providing an evidence base for nutrition education, policy planning, and program implementation. Our research bridges data, education, and policy to advance public health nutrition.
Public Health Nutrition(PHN) Laboratory collects and analyzes nutritional data for disease prevention and management, providing a scientific foundation for nutritional education, policy planning, and program implementation. Centering our research on Nutritional Epidemiology, we utilize statistical methodologies to analyze the associations between dietary habits and health outcomes. To ensure academic rigor, we continuously refine and apply advanced research methodologies and statistical analysis techniques throughout our research process. Building on our findings, we actively participate in domestic and international nutrition conferences for academic exchange and poster presentations, while consistently publishing our research in prominent domestic and international journals. Our laboratory executes research projects commissioned by public institutions—including the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS), the Seoul Metropolitan Government, the National Research Foundation of Korea (NRF), and the Ministry of Health and Welfare (MOHW)—contributing to evidence-based public health nutrition policies and practices. Ultimately, we aim to cultivate experts who can scientifically interpret nutritional data and systematically address public health nutrition challenges through robust statistical analysis capabilities.
Main Research Area
The Planetary Health Diet (PHD) is a science-based global reference diet that promotes optimal human health through a predominantly plant-based dietary pattern adaptable to diverse populations and cultural contexts, while also addressing environmental sustainability and nutritional adequacy.
Community nutrition addresses food and nutrition issues of individuals and groups within shared regional, cultural, or social contexts, and includes public health nutrition, nutrition education, and nutrition therapy, becoming increasingly important in health promotion and disease prevention.
Nutritional epidemiology is the field that applies epidemiological and statistical methods to examine long-term dietary exposures and their associations with health and disease at the population level, providing evidence to inform nutrition and public health policies.
Clinical nutrition is an interdisciplinary field integrating medicine and nutrition that applies the principles of nutritional support within the framework of nutritional care, including medical nutrition therapy, to maintain nutritional status and improve patient treatment and outcomes.
