PhD Students

José Caiza

José Caiza is a PhD student in the ECE department under Dr. Philip E. Paré and Dr. Junjie Qin working in modeling, optimization, and control of networked infrastructure systems. He completed his MS in ECE from Purdue as a Fulbright Scholar in 2023 under Dr. Philip E. Paré and Dr. Junjie Qin, working in decision-making under uncertainty in supply-chain networks with disruption risk. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from Escuela Superior Politécnica del Litoral (ESPOL), Ecuador in 2019. His undergraduate research was on the application of Internal-Model-Control (IMC) in chemical processes. His research interests include automatic control, energy-transportation networks, and game theory. Outside of research, he enjoys doing crossfit and cooking.

Humphrey Leung

Humphrey Leung is a PhD student in the ECE department studying networked epidemic dynamics. He got his Bachelor of Science (2017) and Master of Science (2019) in Computer Science from Brigham Young University. His primary research interests are machine learning, deep learning, and network dynamics. His master thesis was titled "Necessary and Sufficient Conditions on State Transformations That Preserve the Causal Structure of LTI Dynamical Networks", and it was presented at the 2018 CDC. He enjoys hiking and watching movies in his leisure time.

Ian Walter

Ian Walter is a PhD student under Dr. Philip E. Paré and Dr. Jitesh H. Panchal working on connecting social networked systems with production and manufacturing systems. He earned his Bachelor of Science (2020) in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University at Albany (SUNY Albany) in New York. His undergraduate research was on visible light communication and signal processing. Outside of school and research, he spends his time longboarding, designing and 3D-printing things, and playing video games.
