What is an Important Bird Area and Why is this significant?
An Important Bird Area is an area where the biodiversity of bird species is high. Along with high biodiversity most, or some of the birds are also endangered, threatened, or vulnerable. This area in particular has many Bald Eagles. Bald Eagles are seen as sacred animals and good omens to the Rappahannock Tribe. This was a major reason for them to settle in this area and why it is sacred lands.
