Part of a motion design course taken at UTD, meant to capture the different elements of art and animation. Based around an alien invasion theme that I used as a reference point for the overarching storyline of the three main projects I created for the class. This is about the Earth perspective of the lead up to the takeover.
The Sequel to The Invasion animation. Project was meant to practice animation sequencing with audio (specifically music) in order to work on timing, association, balance, and overall flow of an animated piece. The professor offered sample music to use for our project, but I chose to create my own (Goes by the same name). This follows the main characters as they volunteer for a space mission to go aid the Earth resistance forces in their fight to defend their home planet.
The Final Project of the motion design course, and the Prequel to The Invasion. Meant to practice typographical animation, in time with audio with a script/lyrics. I chose one of my favorite songs, My Own Worst Enemy by Lit, and themed it on a high school relationship gone wrong, being described in the musings of a teens notebook. This is the main alien characters notebook, and relates to their main arc (in an expanded vision for the storyline).
Less of a focus on traditional 2D or 3D animation, this final lighting project had my team light, render, and composite a short. The complete animation was five shots, with the final shot being completely done by the team. I was in charge of lighting, rendering, and compositing shot 2 (the close-up of the boy turning on the light) and shot 5 (the comedic reveal of the other boy with the portals). Shot 2 was especially important because it dictated the lighting direction of the subsequent shots. Lit and rendered in Maya, and composited in Nuke. Check out our finished product below.
