Project Description: Our goal was to explore varieties of social media and evaluate the impacts on myself and society.
Social Media Addiction Survey: After participating in the “AM I ADDICTED TO SOCIAL MEDIA?” QUIZ, I realized that I am pretty reliant on social media. I believe this is true as the results stated
You're fairly reliant on social media, but there are far worse culprits! Still, it's good to be reminded that UK adults spend an average of 8 hrs 41 mins on screens every day, and 4 hours of that on smartphone apps alone (mainly social media). That's about a third of each day checking apps. Do you need to rethink your social media habits and the amount of time you spend scrolling?
Reflection: I believe that I do spend too much time on social media. A third of each day checking apps really opens a new look on how I live life. I should probably stop focusing on social media apps and such, and I should start focusing on my life in reality. I hope to start reducing my usage on social media and keep it constantly either little to no use in a day.
An interesting stat includes that misinformation is one of the leading causes on having a negative impact on social media. This is interesting because most of the internet includes fake news and misinformation. Also negative actions towards others are another leading cause into negative feelings.
Social Media's Impact on Society: In my opinion I think social media app and such are the downfall of society. I believe that all it provides is false hopes and negative feelings towards others. Although you may find enjoyment in ones post, the after affects like jealousness or offense taken after posts will bring ones well being down. Also, social media is basically just a popularity contest in most cases, I dont believe many people post things because they like it. I believe they are trying to draw attention to others after posting.
Lessons Learned: I learned that social media is mostly the biggest use in societies day to day life. I also learned that there are ways that people can reduce social media use, and use it safely. VPNs are a great way to keep biased items out of your feed. With a VPN, no one can track you and display ads or media that is biased.
