Pacific herring are vital to the environment, economy, and culture of Alaska. However, despite their importance, vital genetic features about the species remain poorly understood. By using modern genomic techniques, our team at the University of Alaska Fairbanks are investigating herring genetic topics to better understand herring in Alaska.
