Workshop: The publishing process: everything you wanted to know but never dared ask

Description: The objective of this workshop is to help young researchers navigate the publishing process. It will be structured as a round table, wherein PhD students and early career researchers can ask about widely shared concerns, which are often overlooked, namely: what makes a good manuscript; what issues are important to editors; details of the review process; how to navigate the uncertainty, ethical questions, and more.
Elisa Giuliani is Professor of Management at the Department of Economics and Management of the University of Pisa (Italy), where she directs the Responsible Management Research Center - REMARC. She holds a PhD in Science and Technology Policy from SPRU University of Sussex, 2005 and a PhD in Management from the University of Pisa (2002). She has been visiting at MIT Sloan, Bocconi University, Lund University, University of Sussex. Her research interests are at the interface of international business, economic geography and development studies. She has recently worked on the relationship between international business and human rights, and on socio-environmental compliance of standards in global value chains.
She is Editor of Research Policy, and member of the Editorial Board of Economic Geography, Journal of Economic Geography and the Business and Human Rights Journal. She is in the Editorial Review Board of the Journal of International Business Studies and Management Organization Review and a Fellow of the Regional Studies Association.
She is PI of the Horizon Europe project (2022-2025) REBALANCE “Rebalancing disruptive business of multinational corporation and global value chains within democratic and inclusive citizenship processes”.
Francesco Rentocchini is Economic Analyst at the European Commission Joint Research Centre (JRC) and Associate Professor in Business Economics and Innovation at the Department of Economics, Management and Quantitative Methods at the University of Milan (IT). He was previously Associate Professor in Strategy and Innovation at the University of Southampton (UK).
He has an established research record in innovation studies. His main area of research relates to bi-directional flows between the generation of knowledge know-how and the development of technological innovation. His research interests include innovation in high-tech industries, environmental economics, growth and survival of start-ups and SMEs and university-industry collaborations.
His articles have appeared, among the others, in Research Policy, Industrial and Corporate Change and International Journal of Industrial Organization. He was Associate Editor for the European Management Review (2016-2020) and has been guest editor for Industry and Innovation and Small Business Economics.
He contributed to several research projects, both at national and international level, and enjoyed research periods abroad in various internationally recognised research centres (e.g. Manchester Institute of Innovation Research in the UK, UNU-MERIT research centre in the Netherlands, INGENIO in Spain).
Francesco holds a doctoral degree from the University of Bologna.

Description: This workshop will explore the distance/relationship between academic research and the policy process as a stepping stone to reaching a broader audience for researchers, over and beyond the academic environment.
Elisabetta Marinelli works as a policy analyst under the trade name “Policy-Research Interface” (for more information: www.pr-i.eu). Prior to setting-up PR-i, she worked for nine years at the European Commission Joint Research Centre, supporting regions and member states in the implementation of Smart Specialisation Strategies. An economist by training, Elisabetta holds a PhD from the London School of Economics, an MSc from the University of Sussex and a degree from La Sapienza, University of Rome. Specialised in regional development and research, higher education and innovation policy her experience spans from the academic to the public and private sectors.
