To keep everything running smoothly and efficiently, we have 8 stations to work for volunteers. Below is a brief description of each and how they are managed.
Station 1
Station Level- Easy
Purpose- The volunteer essentially serves as a on and off switch for gameday parkers.
Encourage cars to park with us- We accept game day parkers at PFTA. The number of gameday parkers is dependent upon how many season tickets we sell as well as how efficiently we are parking cars. If we are accepting gameday parkers the volunteer at this station is trying to drum up business and let them know they can park here.
Only allow season ticket parkers when lot is full- As we approach gametime, we may tell this volunteer to stop anyone coming down the road leading to the school parking lot unless they have a season pass (in other words no gameday parkers!). This is to ensure we have capacity for season ticket holders.
Preferred skills- Outgoing personality, ability to be firm if needed
Station 2
Station Level- Hard
Purpose- Act as the host of Park for the Arts. This is probably the customers first opportunity to talk to someone from Alice Carlson, so there might be a lot of questions thrown at this volunteer.
Take Money- Gameday parkers will need to give money that day in order to park. They can pay cash or by card. Cash payers will pay here at station 2. Card payers will be directed to Station 8 where the volunteer there can assist them.
Count Gameday Parkers- The volunteer working this station will be given a counter to count the number of gameday parkers we have. At the start of each game, the PFTA chair or coordinator will tell you how many gameday parkers we can have. Your job is to take gameday parkers money, and when we hit the number that was told to you, you tell Station 1 to not let anymore gameday parkers in.
Answer Questions- When parkers pull up they may ask some questions. The volunteer at this station doesn't have to answer the parkers question in full (we have more people lined up wanting to park and go to the game!). Some questions will be short and you can answer them, others might require some research or time (ex. "I paid online but never got my parking pass"). The goal is to get this parkers car to the next location that can keep the line going. The different scenarios should be talked about with the PFTA chair or coordinator.
Control Flow- Sometimes the grass parking can get crazy. The volunteer at this station should be in contact with Station 3 thru 5 to understand if we need to stop cars for a bit to avoid a traffic jam on the field.
Preferred skills- Outgoing personality, ability to be firm if needed, able to multitask, able to quickly assess questions and provide direction.
Station 3
Station Level- Easy
Purpose- Help control traffic and act as an aid for Station 2.
Control Traffic- This volunteer will see cars coming in and look for what kind of placard they have (Know the "Types of Parkers" by heart page!). Based off the placard, this volunteer will point them in the right direction. When in doubt, look at the Station 2 volunteer for guidance.
Aid Station 2- Station 2 can't be unmanned, so there are times where Station 2 is going to need a runner to go find someone, tell/ask another station something, etc.
Preferred skills- Can point with hands, can wave, doesn't mind taking over for short bursts in other areas.
Station 4
Station Level- Easy
Purpose- Help move parkers to their next location and park cars in section by the backstop
Move Parkers to Next Location - With direction from Station 5 move people West thru the field to their the next parking spot or park them in the area by the backstop.
Park cars in Your Section- If the car is deemed to fit better in your section (Station 5 will help decide that if you are unsure) then you will park the next car coming in next to the last one you put in there. When starting new rows, consult someone who has worked that area before or Station 5.
Preferred skills- Can point with hands, can wave
Station 5
Station Level- Hard
Purpose- Act as the lead for out on the field and decide where cars go and resolve issues.
Decide Section of the Field the Car will Park In - The volunteer at this station will look at each car coming in and access which section it will go into. He will point the driver to in the right direction where a volunteer at the other station will bring them into their final parking spot.
Control Flow- Often times the field will get busy and cars will still being trying to park as more cars come in. The volunteer at Station 5 will control flow and slow down incoming cars so other cars have time to finalize parking,
Preferred skills- Outgoing personality, ability to be firm if needed, able to multitask, able to quickly assess situations and provide direction.
Station 6
Station Level- Easy
Purpose- Finalize parking of cars.
Finalize Parking of Cars - If the car is deemed to fit better in this section (Station 5 will help decide that if you are unsure) then you will park the next car coming in next to the last one you put in there. When starting new rows, consult someone who has worked that area before or Station 5.
