Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteers are needed for th 2025 book sale!

The dates for this year's book sale are Thursday 10/23/2025 - Saturday 10/25/2025. We will be at the convention center again, and we need support beginning Monday 10/20/2025.

If you are interested in volunteering to help us raise money to support the Pendleton Public Library, please fill out this Google Form. If you are uncomfortable filling out a Google Form, you are also welcome to reach out to us via email (PendletonFriendsOfTheLibrary@gmail.com).

Here are the shifts we need volunteers for:

-Monday 10/20/2025: 1:00 PM - 3:00 PM and 3:00 PM - 5:00 PM

Loading up books at City Hall and unloading books at the Convention Center

-Tuesday 10/21/2025: 09:00 AM - 12:00 PM , 12:00 PM - 3:00 PM , and 3:00 PM - 6:00 PM

Unpacking and arranging books. Preparing Convention Center.

-Wednesday 10/22/2025: 09:00 AM - 12:00 PM , 12:00 PM - 3:00 PM , and 3:00 PM - 6:00 PM

Unpacking and sorting books. Preparing Convention Center.

-Thursday 10/23/2023: 09:00 AM - 12:00 PM and 6:30 PM - 09:00 PM

Morning shift: Unpacking and arranging books. Evening shift: Assisting with the first day of sale.

-Friday 10/24/2025: 10 AM - 12:00 PM , 12:00 PM - 2:00 PM , 2:00 PM - 4:00 PM , 4:00 PM - 6:00 PM, 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM

Assisting with the second day of sale (Public Sale / Free Entry).

-Saturday 10/25/2025: 10 AM - 12:00 PM , 12:00 PM - 2:00 PM , 2:00 PM - 5:00 PM , 5:00 PM - completion (hoping for no later than 7:00 PM)

Assisting with the final day of sale (Public Sale / Free Entry and Bag Sale) and cleaning the convention center.

Again, please reach out if you are interested in lending a hand! Also, if you know of any sports teams, scouting groups, or any other youth groups that may be willing to lend a hand - especially with moving and packing boxes of books on Saturday 10/25/2023 - please let us know.

About volunteering

PFOL is always in need of volunteers! If you are interested in volunteering in any capacity, please contact us as PendletonFriendsOfTheLibrary@gmail.com.

There are several ways to get involved:

You can come out with PFOL to support a recurring or one-off library program
You can volunteer during the week of the annual book sale (more info on this below)
You can volunteer throughout the year to help sort donated books for the books sale. Sorters meet in the basement of City Hall on Monday evenings, 7:00 - 8:00 PM.
You can serve as a judge for our annual bookmark contest
You can serve a two-year term as a PFOL board member

All volunteers are highly encouraged to complete a volunteer form with the City of Pendleton. Please stop by City Hall to fill out a form (500 SW Dorion Ave, Pendleton, OR 97801) prior to volunteering at an event.

Volunteering for the annual book sale

There are so many ways that you can lend a hand for the annual book sale, including:

Lending a hand to help load up and transfer books from City Hall to the Convention Center. Help is also needed with unloading books.
Sorting and organizing books at the Convention Center prior to the sale
Lending a hand during the actual sale, either by tallying books, loading books into people's cars, managing and tidying inventory at the sale, etc.
Helping recruit and sign up new PFOL members at the sale.
And much, much more.
