We are very pleased that our 2025 Annual Meeting will also serve as the launch party for the new community-based literary magazine Quill of the Umatilla. Contributing authors will read their works, followed by a panel discussion. Refreshments and desserts will also be provided.
If you are interested in attending, please be sure to RSVP by visiting the City of Pendleton's website, here. If you have any questions regarding the annual meeting, please feel free to reach out to us at PendletonFriendsOfTheLibrary@Gmail.com
Pendleton Friends of the Library (PFOL) is an association of volunteers devoted to supporting our local library. Our goals are (1) to promote our community's knowledge of our local library's services, facilities, and needs and (2) to promote donations of library materials, volunteer hours, and financial support.

We advocate for adequate funding, including donations, for the Pendleton Public Library and the Umatilla County Special Library District, which includes all 12 public libraries in Umatilla county.
We assist with children’s reading programs and other library activities.
We arrange to bring speakers, exhibits, and programs to the community, often collaborating with other organizations.
We help with the organization, funding, and distribution of approximately 1,500 books to Pendleton elementary school students twice each year, through the Reading Is Fundamental (RIF) program.
We sponsor an annual bookmark design contest at our local elementary students.
Our major fund-raising event is the annual fall book sale. We collect and sort book donations throughout the year.
Our board typically meets once a month, usually the second Wednesday of the month. All are welcome to attend a board meeting. See the calendar above for upcoming board meeting times and locations.
Our funds come from membership dues, our annual fall book sale, fundraisers, memorials, bequests, and contributions. As a non-profit corporation, contributions we receive are tax deductible, according to Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.
More than 80 percent of our funds go the Pendleton Public Library for the purchase of books and materials. An annual donation from the Friends continues to be an important part of the library’s book budget. This donation is used to acquire new books, audio books, materials for the library of things, and various media. Funds are also used to support Reading Is Fundamental (RIF), to present programs at the library and in the community, to sponsor a bookmark contest in the schools to create complimentary bookmarks for library patrons. We appreciate the many volunteers who make it possible to operate with virtually no administrative expense.
