Organizers

The workshop is organised by Lorenzo Vigentini (UNSW Australia), Danny Liu (University of Sydney, Australia), Roberto Martinez-Maldonado (UTS Sydney, Australia), and Lisa Lim (University of South Australia).

All submissions will be rigorously peer reviewed and accepted papers will feature in the LAK18 Companion Proceedings (details available in the submission page).

Organising committee

Lorenzo Vigentini @l_vigentini is a Senior Lecturer and the Academic lead in Educational analytics in the portfolio of the Pro-Vice Chancellor Education at UNSW Australia. Lorenzo’s background is in Psychology, Learning and teaching in the Higher Education sector and he has a lot of experience in IT/e-learning developments and deployments. His expertise is into learning processes at the crossing between cognitive psychology, differential psychology, education and human-computer interaction. Together with his interest in innovation and technology, he has been leading various Learning Analytics initiatives and projects at UNSW including the establishment of the Learning Analytics and Educational Data science research group.


Danny Liu @dannydotliu is a Senior Lecturer in Academic Development and Leadership in the Deputy Vice Chancellor Education Portfolio at the University of Sydney. Danny is a molecular biologist by training, programmer by night, researcher and academic developer by day, and educator at heart. A multiple national teaching award winner, he works at the confluence of learning analytics, student engagement, educational technology, and professional development and leadership to enhance the student experience. He is one of the team leads on the award-winning learning analytics tool, the Student Relationship Engagement System.


Roberto Martinez-Maldonado @RobertoResearch is a full-time Researcher in Educational Data Science and Human-Computer Interaction in the Connected Intelligence Centre at the University of Technology Sydney. He has a background in Computing Engineering. His areas of research include Human-Computer Interaction (HCI, CSCW), Learning Analytics, Artificial Intelligence (AIED, EDM) and Collaborative Learning (CSCL). In the past years, his research has focused on applying data mining techniques to help understand how people learn and collaborate, data storytelling, multimodal learning analytics and research on educational dashboards.


Lisa Lim is a PhD student at the University of South Australia. Lisa has a background in educational Psychology, and served for more than 10 years as an academic developer in Singapore. Her doctoral research is aimed at understanding how students engage with student-facing learning analytics applications. Currently she is assisting with the OnTask project at UniSA.
