Petru Negură is a researcher at the Institute of Legal, Political, and Sociological Research at Moldova State University, where he has been active since 2017. Since May 2025, he has also been teaching at the University of Regensburg, in the Department of Southeast European Studies. From 2020 to 2023, he was a research fellow of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation at the Leibniz Institute for East and Southeast European Studies (IOS) in Regensburg, Germany, and continued his work there as a researcher until September 2023. In late 2023, he held a research fellowship at the Aleksanteri Institute in Helsinki. From January to October 2025, Petru Negură has been serving as a social science expert for the EU-funded Value Chain Analysis for Development (VCA4D) project in Moldova.
Negură holds a PhD in Sociology from the École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales (EHESS) in Paris. He has also been an Associate Professor at the Free International University of Moldova and a guest scholar at EHESS Paris and the University of Bucharest. His academic journey includes a Fulbright Visiting Scholarship at the University of California, Berkeley, and fellowships from the New Europe College, the Gerda Henkel Foundation, and the Academic Fellowship Program of the Open Society Foundations.
In addition to his research, Petru Negură leads the PLURAL Forum for Interdisciplinary Studies in Chisinau. He has also co-edited PLATZFORMA.md and the Scopus journal Plural: History, Culture, Society. His research examines nation-building, education, perceptions of peace and war, and social welfare and urban poverty across Eastern Europe and the former USSR.
