Purpose of Clinical Practicums
A clinical practicum is defined as a supervised, practical application of concurrently or previously studied theory. Clinical Practicums are essential to nurse practitioner education – they are the primary vehicle by which knowledge and concepts are translated into “hands on” clinical care. Courses with clinical practicums require students to be involved in direct patient care. Students in our distance FNP program must complete the following practicum courses:
*Clinical readiness is competency-based. Some students might require additional clinical hours in order to meet competency requirements. The range listed reflects the minimum (required) to maximum number of hours expected for a student to achieve clinical competency.
**Students with an interest in a specialty area are permitted to spend up to 90 clinical hours during N785D in a specialty practice.
