Dr. Petros Sideris is an Associate Professor & E.B. Snead ’25 Career Development Professor I in the Zachry Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CVEN) at Texas A&M University, where he has been serving on the faculty since 2017. Prior to joining Texas A&M University, he was an Assistant Professor at the University of Colorado-Boulder since 2013. He received his M.Sc. (2008) and Ph.D. (2012) in Civil Engineering from the University at Buffalo – The State University of New York. At Texas A&M, he has been teaching courses on advanced mechanics, structural design, and computer methods, and he has established a research program that advances fundamental understanding and practical deployment of resilient and sustainable structures and infrastructure with particular emphasis on advanced construction methods, such as construction 3D printing, and novel materials, such as hempcrete and modified concretes. He has secured over $19M to support these efforts (~ $7.6M as PI, with ~$4.9M his share) through support from federal agencies (NSF, NIST, HUD, DOE, ED, DOT, USACE) and state agencies (TxDOT). He has led signature projects such as a DOE-funded $3.74M project on 3D printed hempcrete structures, positioning him at the forefront of additive construction, and an ED-funded Graduate Assistantships in Areas of National Need (GAANN) program, which uniquely integrates research and education. His contributions have been recognized with publication recognitions such as Editor’s choice and best paper awards, multiple College of Engineering Genesis Awards, the CVEN Research Impact Award, the TEES Young Faculty Fellow Award, and the Professor Achievement Award by the Houston Chapter of the American Concrete Institute (ACI), reflecting both scholarly impact and leadership in the civil engineering profession. He has been active in ASCE and SEI since 2013. He served on the ASCE/SEI Seismic Effects Committee for 11 years, as member, Secretary, Vice Chair, and then Chair (2021–2024), and as member on the SEI Performance-Based Design for Structures Committee (2016–2024). He organized technical sessions at the SEI Structures Congress (2015, 2017, 2018) and is a member of the ASCE/EMI Computational Mechanics Committee. He is Associate Editor of the ASCE Journal of Structural Engineering, where he received three Outstanding Reviewer awards. He is a voting member of ACI committees on additive construction, including the ACI ITG-12, which prepares the first ACI design code for 3D printed concrete. His mentees include two ASCE O.H. Ammann Research Fellows and the current Co-chair of the SEI Seismic Effects Committee.
