Permutation Patterns 2026 will take place in Los Angeles, CA at Cal State LA.
The largest nearby airport to Cal State LA Is Los Angeles (LAX). However, technically Burbank Airport (BUR) is closer and is much less crowded of an airport to fly to If It makes sense financially as well as logistically. It is not hard to take public transit from LAX (Los Angeles International Airport) to Cal State LA's campus.
First, take the LAX FlyAway bus from the airport to Union Station. (There is also an LAX FlyAway bus from the airport to Van Nuys; DO NOT take that one!) The bus runs every 30 to 60 minutes, and it is a shuttle bus directly between the airport and Union Station with no other stops. Here are the payment options. Using the FlyAway phone app is probably easiest. You can also buy tickets online, or you can pay on the bus using contactless credit/debit card, Apple Pay, or Google Pay. The fare is $12.75 one way, and the trip takes between 30 and 60 minutes depending on traffic.
Next, take the Metro J-line Busway from Union Station to Cal State LA. This trip takes about five minutes. Metro is the main public transit system covering Los Angeles and the surrounding cities, and it has rail and buses. Metro stations, including both Union Station and Cal State LA, have machines where you can buy a Metro Tap card and add stored value to it. Tap your card when you enter a rail station or board a bus. Regular fare is $1.75, and it includes two hours of free transfers. (The Metro J-Line is hard to find in Union Station, so you may have to ask someone for help.)
If you are coming from the Burbank Airport, you can also take the Amtrak (US national rail) Pacific Surfliner train from Burbank Airport to Union Station.
On-campus housing will be available in the South Village dormitory-style residence. The dormitories have central AC and on-site laundry. Each residence hall room can accommodate up to three guests in a single, double, or triple occupancy configuration (one bed per guest). The expected prices (subject to final approval) are:
Single: $69.00 per night
Double: $51.00 per night
Triple: $42.00 per night
Each room includes extra-long twin bed, wardrobe with drawers, and desk and chair. There are community restrooms and showers, two study lounges per floor, one TV lounge per floor, and public cooking facilities available in the community kitchen. A few other considerations:
If you are bringing children, we recommend that you stay in a hotel off campus (see below).
If you are staying in on-campus housing and you are bringing your car, then please contact us to set up parking.
Alternatively, you may opt to stay in a hotel off campus. The hotels most conveniently located to our campus are in the neighboring city of Monterey Park. There are several hotels in Monterey Park within a 15-minute walk to the Atlantic/Garvey bus stop, from which the Metro Bus 74 goes directly to campus (Cal State LA Transit Center). There are also hotels in Downtown LA, from which the Metro J-line busway (silver line) goes directly to campus.
The Village Commons is a buffet-style (all you can eat) dining hall in the same building as the South Village residences.
Breakfast $16.00
Lunch $18.00
Dinner $19.25
Vegan/vegetarian options are available. Pay by credit/debit card upon entry to the dining hall for each meal.
