Improving care for women with perineal trauma
Over 70% of women who give birth vaginally will have some degree of damage to the perineal muscles.
An episiotomy (surgical cut) is the most surgically performed procedure in the world.
Unfortunately, this trauma of childbirth is often overlooked in the postnatal period and can have long term consequences.
This website is for women, midwives, GPs, obstetricians, health visitors and anyone who needs information about perineal trauma and how we can work together to improve care for women who suffer tears to the perineum during childbirth.
I am a UK registered midwife specialising in perineal trauma including obstetric anal sphincter injuries, repair of perineal trauma and postnatal management.
I am dedicated to working with others to improve care for women with perineal trauma.
