Each piece created and repurposed through monochromatic altars fades the object's origin as a metaphor for geopolitical borders. This border can only exist as a container, a checkout point, a transient space, a nonspace, and a timeless emotional space.
Ausencia is a series of images that capture two decades of documenting the Atlantic Ocean just moments after departure or before arrival and the effects of recognizing one’s origin. In the context of the exhibit Persistencia at the Puerto Rican Arts Alliance in Chicago, this piece is a looped moving image of the sky on a framed monitor over a white nightstand.
