Competing in the 2019 Women's J70 National Championships with Cambridge University on a very blustery day in the Solent (>35 knots of wind). I'm helming the boat on the right.

About Me

I grew up just outside Cambridge, UK, before going to Oxford Uni for undergrad, and returning to Cambridge Uni for my PhD.

When I'm not in the lab looking at rocks, I love watersports (particularly sailing, but also windsurfing and surfing) and hiking. I sometimes climb plastic walls inside (bouldering).

I sailed nationally as a teenage, and was on the Team Racing squad for 5 years at Oxford and Cambridge University (2013-2018). Highlights include captaining the Women's Team at Oxford (2016), placing 3rd overall at the Women's Open Keelboat Championship (2016), and placing 2nd overall at the Women's Team Racing Nationals (2019).

I also try to share my story of being a scientist with a chronic illness. I picked up a river-bourne illness in the River Cam in 2014 thanks to the vast amount of sewage pollution in UK rivers, This did permanent damage to my digestive system. #SurfersAgainstSewage #Rivercide

Cambridge vs. Oxford Varsity Sailing Match in Weymouth, UK (2018). The weather is not normally like this in the UK!

A relief to make it to the summit in the high Spanish Pyrenees after lots of scree fields and scrambling

Hiking between Skógar and Þórsmörk during the Icelandic heat wave of 2017 (resulting in outstanding views of the glaciers on either side of the valley). This hike passes directly through the flows and craters where the eruption first started in March 2010 (before the explosive phase started which grounded air travel across Europe!).
