How to Sign up for a Meetup Account

Meetup is a well designed App that is very easy to use. Just scroll, point-and-click on any image or link. Is there a fee for me to use Meetup?

No. there is no fee.  To establish a group on Meetup there is an annual fee of $299. This fee is not paid by you.

I have heard that other Meetup groups charge a small fee, such as $5 or $1.

Some meeting organizers ask their group members for a small fee to offset the annual $299 cost. POPs is not doing that. POPs is open to everyone at no cost. If you are interested, Meetup offers something called "Meetup+" which has added features and if you choose to, you can buy that (see "Meetup+ vs. Free Plan" ). 

Using Meetup: Attending Events & Easily Managing Communications

Do I have to sign-up for every POPs event that I want to attend?

No. However, if you sign-up, it lets everyone see who is planning to attend that week. It is up to you. And, you can easily cancel, if something comes up.

If I have signed up for an event, am I expected to cancel if I have a change of plans?

No. You do not need to cancel. However, if you cancel, you let others know that you won’t be there. It is up to you.

How do I get directions to the events?

Click on the Map image for directions, or type the street address into your favorite Map App on your phone, such as Google maps, Apple maps, or your vehicle's navigation system.

Does meetup allow me to send messages to other group members?

Yes. You can message the entire group, or only the people who signed up for an event, or you can message a specific person

How do I message (text) a specific person in Meetup?

Click their image or name. Then click “Chat with Andrea (for example)”. Type your message in the “Send a Message” box and click the Arrow icon to send it.

How do I send a message to everyone who signed up for an event?

Scroll down the POPs Meetup page until you see “Start the Conversation”. Then enter your question. Now, click the “Send as Private Comment” checkbox. Then click the Arrow icon to send your message to event attendees only.

I need help and I want to send my question to everyone in the POPs Meetup group to get a quick response from lots of people.

How do I limit emails and the kind of notifications that I receive from Meetup?

Click on the Circle icon in the upper right corner of then choose Settings from the drop-down menu. The circle has an image of yourself if you uploaded one, or the first letter of your name. From the Settings menu, choose Email Updates. I recommend the following options but you can experiment to see which settings work best for you. 

• Email Updates - Send fewer emails - Set to ON 

• Updates from Meetup - set everything OFF except for these two: Messages - set to ON Replies to my Comments - set to ON 

• Peninsula Outdoor Painters (POPS) Notifications I have the following notifications turned ON, everything else is OFF 

• Member Joins the Group - ON 

• New Event Announcements - ON 

• Changes to Event Time or Location - ON 

• Event Updates from Organizers - ON 

• Announcement to members about the Group - ON

How do I upload a photo of myself into Meetup, so other members can recognize me?

Click on the Circle Icon in the upper right corner then choose Profile from the drop-down menu. Then upload your photo or drag-and-drop it into the target area.

If Meetup sends me pop-up windows how do I stop that?

Update your browser’s settings to block pop-ups. Generally, Browsers have a Settings menu, where you can do this.

How can I contact the organizer of this Meetup?

Access to POPs on-location Photos

How do I upload a photo from my iPhone or Android Phone (see link above or instructions below)

1. Open the Meetup App

2. Open the Peninsula Outdoor Painters (POPs) group

3. Scroll down to Events, then click See All and click the Past tab to see a list of events that have passed

4. Choose the event by clicking on it

5. Scroll down until you see Photos then click Add Photos

6. Choose Select Photos to upload a photo you have already taken

7. Choose Take a Photo to upload a photo that you are about to take

8. Once you have selected or taken your photo, click Post to upload it

9. If you wish to crop your photo to show only the painting, use your Photos App to do that before you upload it

Do I have to crop my photos before I upload them?

• Cropping is optional. It is up to you. Cropping lets you adjust your photograph so that only your painting is visible. You must crop using the Photos App on your computer or phone. You do cannot crop within Meetup. After you crop you can upload into Meetup.

Will POPs continue to have a designated person at our events to photograph our work?

• Yes but only until April 30. Please get comfortable doing it yourself because it is a lot of unnecessary administrative work for someone else to take all the photographs, crop them, add a caption to identify you as the painter and then upload them.

How soon can I start uploading photo into Meetup

• Immediately

If I accidentally upload the wrong photo how do I delete it?

• Click through the Event’s Photos to find the one you want to delete. Then click the 3 dots (...) in the upper right corner of your screen, then press Delete to remove your photo.

Click the ? Icon in the top right corner of the Meetup App. This opens Meetup’s Help System where you can enter your questions and get answers

What if I cannot find an answer in the Meetup Help System?

You can send your question to our Meetup group. Scroll down the POPs Meetup page until you see “Start the Conversation”. Then enter your question.
