It has been many years since we last changed the design of the club shirt. The most recent design being burgundy and gold whcih was produced in 2011.
Time and tastes have moved on as well as materials and technology, which allowed us to adopt more complex design in more vibrant colours.
Lionhart are a popular company for custom sportswear and are particularly prevalent in the archery community.
Lionhart produced the design for us to fit our brief and as you can see there were a few attempts to get something we liked.
The White Stag is part of the history of Penicuik
Legend relates how King Robert the Bruce granted to Randolph-de Clerc the lands of Penicuik as a reward for slaying ‘a white faunch deer’ which always escaped his hounds when he hunted on the Pentland Hills.
After granting him the land, it is reputed that Bruce said: “When I, or any succeeding kings, shall come to hunt on the Pentlands or Burghmuir, your huntsman shall attend the gathering, and from the top of the Buckstane shall wind three blasts on the bugle horn and I wish you and yours long life to enjoy it.”
So that also covers the three horns on the sleeve.
Credit to History – Penicuik Hunter and Lass for the information above, there are other stories and HISTORY – Penicuik Rugby Club has a slightly different version, but both have the white stage centre stage.
