2026 Summer Swim Team Registration is now Open
Penderbrook Phish Summer Swim Team
The Penderbrook Swim Team is a summer program for swimmers ages 5 to 18. The program will have weekly practices to help our swimmers improve their strokes, gain strength and endurance, and learn the rules for competitive swimming. The practices set them up for the Team Meets, where they will compete against other swim teams in the league. These swimmers must be able to swim 25 meters unassisted in at least one of the four primary strokes (freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, and butterfly).
The program also offers practices for our little Minnows! The Minnows are our younger swimmers who are not quite ready for the Swim Team but would like to work on improving their swim skills, preparing to one day participate in swim team meets. It is designed for kids who are at least 5 years old by June 2026 and are able to comfortably swim away from their coach and submerge their face in water without assistance. Please see below for additional requirements/information about this program!
The Penderbrook Phish Swim Team is part of the Gold Division in the Colonial Swim League.
Swim Team Program Details:
Our swim team season begins right after Memorial Day and runs through the end of July. The season begins on May 28 and runs until the end July. The End-of-Year Banquet will be held on Wednesday, July 22nd and the All Stars Meet will be on July 25th.
Practices:
All practices are one hour long. Please note that practices are not mandatory and it is up to each family to participate in as many as fit their schedule. Registration fees are kept low because we know many families plan on being away on vacations during part of the season.
*Also, note that notice of cancelation of any practices could occur depending on weather or pool issues out of our control. Parents will be notified as early as possible if this occurs.
Between Memorial Day (beginning Thursday, May 28) and end of school year (ending Tuesday, June 16), practices will be offered from 5:30 to 6:30pm, 5 days a week.
*Please note that only one session is available during this time as many swimmers will still be involved in their other extracurricular activities after school.
Once school ends, practices will be held 4 days a week, in the morning, before the pool opens to the community (Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays). This begins on Thursday, June 18 and goes through July 17.
*During the summer part of the season, families will be able to choose between 2 sessions (7:15 to 8:15am or 9 to 10am).
*Note that there is no difference between the two sessions, as far as level or age. Families can choose the time that works best for them.
Within each session, our coaches will divide the swimmers by age group or skill level, depending on the group. Note that during meets, swimmers are aligned with their competitive age groups. The League age groupings consist of the following groups: 8 and under; 9-10; 11-12; 12-14; and 15-18.
Requirements to join the Swim Team:
Swimmers must be between the ages of 5 and 18 years old.
All swimmers must be able to swim across the full length of the pool in at least one of the strokes without assistance.
At all practices and meets, all swimmers under the age of 12 must be accompanied by an adult.
Swim Meets:
In addition to the practices swimmers have the opportunity to participate in A Meets and/or B Meets. These will start on June 13th. All meets will be held at various pools in and around the area, as well as several that we will host at home.
-All A Meets (competitive meets) are held on Saturday mornings (beginning at 8am);
-All B Meets (developmental meets) are on Wednesday evenings (beginning at 6pm)
**Please note that swimmers will have to be there earlier for warmups.
Minnows Program Details
The Minnows practice program begins after the school year has ended. However, we will have several fun activities beforehand that we hope the Minnows will come and participate in! The practice program for the Minnows will run from June 22 - July 16. It includes:
45 minute practices, 3 days a week for 4 weeks (Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays) from 8:15 to 9am.
Minnows will have the ability to experience meets once determined by the coaches that he/she is ready.
Minnows may participate in all social and fun activities that are built into the swim season!!
Minnows is a program that is meant for young swimmers (ideally ages 5-8) who enjoy learning how to swim. We welcome younger brothers and sisters of those joining the swim team.
Please note that this is not for complete beginners. Some requirements include:
ability to swim about half the length of the pool unassisted.
ability to comfortably submerge their body and face in the water without assistance.
be comfortable swimming away from the wall to a coach without assistance.
Registration is on a first come, first serve basis. There will be a cap on the number of swimmers that can register for each time slot.
Please sign up for your preferred time slot during the after school ends part of the season!! There are 2 different time slots during the summer:
June 18 - July 17
4 mornings per week (Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday)
7:15 to 8:15am OR 9 to 10am
Before the above session begins, between Memorial Day (beginning Thursday, May 28) and end of school year (ending June 16), practices will be offered from 5:30 to 6:30pm, 5 days a week. We know that many swimmers will still be involved in after school activities at this point. Come to as many as available to help get ready for the first meet on June 13!
Please note that practice time requests will be honored as much as possible. However, if certain timeframes are unevenly distributed you will be notified about possible changes that need to be made.
**Once payment is received unfortunately we cannot honor any refunds. The program registration fee is a set price for all and cannot be prorated to accommodate time missed due to family travel, illness, etc. It is recommended each swimmer take advantage of all swim practices being offered. However, attendance at all practices is not mandatory and it up to each family/swimmer the number of practices that he/she can attend.
During meets, swimmers have the opportunity to compete against other teams in the swim league to earn points as a team, as well as track individual progress.
Time trials will be held on the morning of Saturday, June 6 (at home) to help determine where each swimmer is at and which events they should race on their first meet.
A Meets will be held every Saturday morning (beginning at 8am), starting on June 13.
**A meets are the more competitive meets at which our fastest swimmers get to compete against other teams in the swim league to earn points as a team.
B Meets are on Wednesday evenings (beginning at 6pm), starting on June 17.
**B meets are more developmental meets that are open to all level swimmers. All will get a change to experience the thrill of competition in a non-stressful environment.
The season will end with the last meet on July 18 (Divisionals), with some of our swimmers participating at All Stars on July 25 (placement is decided at Divisionals).
