2025 Summer Swim Team Registration is now Open
🚩 In order to establish our swim team a large part plays on the dedicated volunteer hours needed especially for the team meets. We do need a commitment from each parent/caretaker that is enrolling a swimmer. Â
All parents who have swimmers attending meets must be assigned and rotate thru positions noted below. Home based meets will require double the amount of parents. Remember-- anyone can volunteer (grandparents, family members, friends, etc.) so bring someone along and they can also help! These are the types of positions that will be needed (specific descriptions are noted below):
Timers (including one Head Timer)
Starters and referees
Stroke and turn judges
Scoring/computer operator
Announcer
Ribbons handler
Card Runners
Pool set up and take down/clean up
Snack bar attendant (only at home events)
Check in/out (practices and meets)
Clerk of course
Timers: Timers use a stopwatch to get accurate times for each swimmer. One timer is designated as the Lane Recorder (one of three timers per lane) and will collect the time card from the swimmer prior to a race and ensure the accuracy of information on the card, and will then record all three times for each race onto the time card. After the event, a Card Runner will pick up the card. On the job training provided. The Head Timer meets with all timers prior to meet start to go over logistics. He/she is responsible for making sure that all stop watches are cleared before each race, signals starter that timers are ready, and assists timers as needed.
Starters and referees: The Starter is responsible for announcing the event and start of each race. The referee is responsible for determining if a swimmer committed an infraction. This positions require training and certification by the CSL.
Stroke and Turn Judges: Responsible for determining if the strokes and turns are being completed correctly. Judges fill out DQ cards for swimmers who have been disqualified from a particular event. This position requires training and certification by the CSL.
Scoring/computer operator: Responsible for entering each swimmer’s time. He/she manage the meet to include scores, records, reports and ribbon labels. Files are transported electronically to HyTek Team Manager for record keeping and data management to help run the team. Coaches use this data to keep track of a swimmers progress throughout the season and to help in meet placement. This position requires attending at least one training session sponsored by the CSL.
Announcer: Responsible for announcing relevant information during home meets. On the job training provided.
Ribbons handler: Verifies and sorts time cards. Places labels on ribbons and sorts them by team to hand out to swimmers.
Card runners: Collects time cards and DQ slips and takes them to Computer Operator and Ribbons Handler.
Pool set-up and take down/clean up: Home meets only! Arrive early to set up and return pool deck to normal once meet has ended.
Snack bar attendant: Man the snack bar. Collect all snack donations and keep track of the money. This is only when we have home meets.Â
Check-in/out: Welcomes swimmers and families. Keeps track of attendance as swimmers arrive at both, practices and meets. Provides any relevant information/paper work.
Clerk of Course: Coordinates heat and lane assignments for swimmers during meets. Organizes swimmers in waiting area before each heat and organizes them by order. Walks swimmer to their lanes and hands off time cards to the timers.
In addition, help outside of the meets are much appreciated (which include practices, social events, etc). We encourage and need all the parents of Phish AND Tadpoles to please help with these roles!!
