Justyna Sokolik
Justyna Joined AMG as a PhD student in Fall 2024 and is working on mathematical modeling of tissue engineering. She has an undergraduate degree in mathematics with a minor in statistics, from Penn State University. Prior to becoming a graduate student, she taught mathematics to people of all ages and backgrounds. Her hobbies include playing video games, baking, and taking care of animals.
Lawan started a PhD position at GSU in Fall 2022 and joined AMG in Spring 2023. Lawan is working on the deep learning and data-driven process approach for synchronization in neuroscience models. Lawan obtained a BSc degree in Business Finance and Computational Mathematics from University of Colombo, Sri Lanka. After graduating, Lawan served as a temporary teaching assistant at the University of Colombo, Sri Lanka and at University of Moratuwa, Sri Lanka. Lawan plays guitar or watches funny video clips during free times. Lawan's hobbies also include cycling, jump roping and traveling.
Sima started a PhD position at GSU and joined AMG in Spring 2023. Sima is working on mathematical modeling and numerical simulation of membrane filters. Prior to that, Sima obtained a bachelor’s and a master's degree in Mechanical Engineering from Babol Noshirvani University of Technology and Kharazmi University (both in Iran), respectively.
Mazi started a PhD position at GSU in Fall 2022 and is working on mathematical modeling of erosion and deposition in porous media. Before joining AMG, Mazi was at University of L’Aquila Italy and the Technical University of Vienna Austria. Prior to that, Mazi obtained a Master’s degree in Mathematics from University of Ilorin, Nigeria on Complex Variable with an interest in Geometric Functions Theory. Mazi loves to listen to music, watch football, play ping pong and traveling.
Clara Rosini
Clara began her MS in Mathematics at GSU in the Fall of 2024 and joined AMG in the Spring of 2025. She is focusing on mathematical modeling of bubbles in flow streams and porous media. Clara earned a BSc in Mechanical Engineering with a minor in Mathematics from McNeese State University. During her undergraduate studies, she served as a teaching assistant at McNeese State University and participated in the LaACES (Louisiana Aerospace Catalysts Experiences for Students) student ballooning program for two consecutive years. Alongside her academic pursuits, Clara has held an athletic scholarship as a D1 basketball player from Fall 2020 to Spring 2025. Her hobbies include cooking, reading, playing basketball, and spending time with friends.
Amy Maria Sims
Amy is an undergraduate math major and joined AMG in Spring 2023. Her project topics include tissue engineering, erosion and deposition, and filtration. She serves as co-mentor for other undergraduates and high school students. Amy earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Georgia State University in 2021 and teaches English and Spanish at a small private school. Her pre-AMG research involved mathematical modeling of hyperparasite systems. Amy enjoys running, playing sports, reading, writing, and studying math.
Jeffrey Thien Bao Le
Jeffrey is an undergraduate Electrical Engineering Student attending Kennesaw State University Fall 2025. Before joining AMG, Jeffrey studied at Georgia State University Perimeter College and plans to attend Georgia Tech for his Master's and grow his basketball YouTube channel as a hobby.
Bezawit Wubshet
Beza is a high school senior at GSMST (Gwinnett School of Mathematics, Science, and Technology), and she joined AMG in Summer 2025. She is working on tissue engineering research, and aims to major in Biomedical Engineering in college. At school, she participates in activities like Debate, Quiz Bowl, and chorus. In her free time, she likes to sing, read, play video games, and watch YouTube.
Kai Flores
Kai is a high school senior at GSMST (Gwinnett School of Mathematics, Science, and Technology) who joined AMG in the Summer of 2025. He enjoys limit testing technology, learning physics and math, and is currently contributing to research in tissue engineering. Kai plans to major in Aerospace or Aeronautical Engineering and pursue a career in the U.S. Air Force. In his free time, he enjoys working out, rock climbing, playing video games and sports with friends, and taking naps.
Alex Resnick
Alex is a high school senior at the Foundry Academy, who joined AMG in the summer of 2025. He is passionate about science and mathematics, and plans to major in physics in college. In his spare time he likes to play squash, play guitar, workout, and read.
