As early as the sixteenth century there is mention of the bowling green on Castlehill.

Peebles Bowling Club was formed in 1829, making it one of the oldest in Scotland.

In 1874 the Bowling Green was moved from Castlehill to our present site at Walkershaugh. The present clubhouse was opened in 1914 and has had some alterations added over the years . Many sets of bowls have been left to the club by past members and amongst them are silver mounted bowls presented to Alex R Stephenson Esq. Dated 1786. Many more of similar antiquity bear only initials. The game itself is perhaps even more popular than it was in earlier time, at the moment we have approximately 90 members, our club is supported locally, and provides a welcome to visiting clubs and holiday visitors.

The Clubhouse was extended in the 1970’s with the addition of the locker room (flat roof extension) and the in 1980’s when the bar area was altered and the front elevation was brought forward to enclose previously external ground. Minor internal alterations were made to facilitate the enlargement. The extension to the front was finished in brick with PVCu windows. The brick walls below the windows have become unstable, an issue that will be addressed as part of the proposed development.
