MassGeneral for Children is a children's hospital within the Massachusetts General Hospital. Since its founding, MGH has been a general hospital, committed to caring for patients across the lifespan. MGH was the first provider of pediatric services in Boston and has been caring for children since 1821. MGfC currently has over 300 physicians within 50 medical specialties and 15 surgical services, and we treat over 170,000 patients annually. We are a pediatric referral center for the MassGeneral Brigham and a teaching service for Harvard Medical School. We have a Pediatrics Residency Program, a Medicine/Pediatrics Residency Program, and 4 Pediatric Fellowships: Endocrinology, Gastroenterology, Pulmonology, and Critical Care.
We at MGfC pride ourselves on our collegiality, close-knit community, and tailored, individualized care for our patients. We join with the residency program and other fellowship programs for wellness activities, advocacy, and advancement of medical education. As part of the larger MGH, we are dedicated to providing a medical home for entire families, coordinating care and working with our colleagues to provide seamless and superb care starting from the neonatal period.

As part of the larger MGH and Harvard Medical School community, our fellows have access to resources across the Harvard system. MGH is part of MassGeneral Brigham, an integrated care system that includes MGH and Brigham and Women's Hospital as well as multiple other hospitals and clinics in New England. Our MassGeneral Brigham Graduate Medical Education office coordinates post-graduate training and provides resources and events for residents and fellows across our system. These include Centers of Expertise in global health, health policy, medical education, and quality and patient safety, as well as programs to foster well-being and provide support.
As a teaching hospital for Harvard Medical School, we have access to HMS resources and programs as well as the resources of the Harvard Catalyst, which provides support and training for translational and clinical research and offers abundant educational opportunities for trainees.
Greater Boston is home to about 4.8 million people, with the City of Boston housing approximately 690,000 and Cambridge housing about 120,000. Boston has 35 colleges and universities, making it a young and vibrant place to live! It offers much to explore -- parks, restaurants, historic sites, museums, theater, music, and festivals. Day trips from Boston include visits to the beach, the White Mountains, the Berkshires, and the Maine Coast.
MGH residents, fellows, and staff live in Boston, Cambridge (right across the river from Boston) and surrounding towns, many of which are accessible using the subway (the T), which also has a stop right at MGH. Both Boston and Cambridge are comprised of multiple neighborhoods, each with a slightly different character. Many residents and fellows also live in nearby Somerville, as well as multiple other surrounding towns accessible by bus or T. Trainee parking is available for purchase for residents and fellows who want to live farther from the hospital and drive into work.
