All students participate in growing tomato plants from seed. They learn about the science and nutrition of different parts of the tomato plants and the interrelationship of a plant and the ecosystem. Many sensory expierences are provided through the planting, transplanting, and harvesting of the plants.
The tomato project ends with a big sale in the garden classroom area where the students are able to interact with the community, educate on care for the plants to costumers and practicing valuable life skills. The money raised is used to continue the tomato plant growing program as well as providing supplies for the gardening program.
