Storied History
Since 1984, Pedal los Pueblos has supported, through volunteerism and fundraising, programs and research for those who are living with Multiple Sclerosis. Over the many years, this weekend-long bike ride has drawn thousands of riders from Albuquerque, Santa Fe, Los Alamos, Espanola, and nearby states. The route, beginning in Pojoaque, travels through Ohkay Owingeh, Ojo Caliente, El Rito, and Espanola. In 2016, with 375 cyclists, over $240,000 was raised in support of families affected by Multiple Sclerosis.
Beginning in 2017 the sponsoring organization began focusing on more populated rides in major metropolitan cities. Finally, in 2022, backing for this event was formally withdrawn.
Today, there is strong momentum among the cycling community to continue this remarkable ride, to carry on fundraising, and to keep in place the great camaraderie between the many riders and volunteers. 2023 will be a year of rebuilding through retaining the existing riders and recruiting back those who left. This approach is critical before a return to fundraising. Looking ahead when fundraising begins again, it will be managed locally and invested directly into the needs of New Mexico individuals and families.
