If you are a Biotechnology student, we encourage you to present your research work - in any Biotech-related field - in the form of a short talk during the first day of the event. The goal here is to acclimate students to conference environments, giving them the chance to prepare scientific presentations and practice oratory skills, but still in a less formal and more friendly occasion.
Are you interested in presenting your topic? Here is what you need to know:
Abstract Booklet
The Abstract Booklet from the Student Presentation section is already available! Download the PDF version below and check out the topics that will be presented on Friday.
You have joined an interesting research direction? Or just read something interesting and want to delve into it? Show us!
For students who have already joined a research, we recommend presenting your research topic, either literature, past results, or current achievements. If you don’t have a research project currently, don’t get discouraged, as this event is open to introducing topics you are interested in. This can be a single or multiple scientific articles, or a branch of science.
We prefer biotechnology-related topics, that:
discover new applications of biotechnology,
obtain results using biotechnology or,
elaborates on the technical, legal, or ethical limitations of biotechnology.
Other topics may also be presented. Please refer to selection of abstracts.
Few examples of topics that are not biotechnology:
Clinical statistical studies without a direct focus on biotechnology applications,
Traditional pharmaceutical development without biotechnological approaches,
Purely theoretical biology or ecological studies,
Chemical engineering processes unrelated to biological systems or enzyme use,
Historical reviews or general education topics in life sciences.
When registering for the event, make sure to select the option indicating that you want to be a student presenter;
To take part of the event as a presenter, prepare an abstract of maximum 250 words
use the abstract template (download below)
we recomend you to follow the the I(A)MRaD+C structure: introduction and aims, methods, results, discussion, and conclusion.
Upload your abstract in a PDF format (use button below).
Pepare a PowerPoint with the main content of your presentation. You may follow the regular introduction, methods, results, and conclusion scheme but it isn't necessary, you can also focus on the introduction, and generally talk about what methods can be used to do your research, telling new findings that either you made or you found interesting in the literature.
your presentation should be around 7 minutes long, allowing a few minutes for questions and discussions (aiming for 10 minutes in total).
Generally, all submitted abstracts will be accepted as long as they meet the basic scientific requirements, professional wording, and structure. It is very important that the text summarizes the topic well within 250 words and is understandable for an outside reader who isn’t familiar with the topic. Also, preferably, all abbreviations have to be fully written out at first occurrence; exceptions can be made if necessary with abbreviations that are common to the field (e.g., DNA, PCR, etc.). If an abstract doesn’t meet the requirements, the organizing team will contact the submitter for correction. Correction is possible until the submission deadline, the 26th of January.
In case we have more applicants than the program can host, we will apply selection:
• First round: students presenting their own biotechnology-related (see “What can I present?” section) research topics are prioritized, remaining places are distributed in the second round in a score-based manner.
• Second round:
o The topic is biotechnology-related (see “What can I present?” section): 0/5 score(s)
o The topic shows novelty: 0/5 score(s)
o The topic uses different techniques to support the findings: 2 scores per technique
o Grammatical errors, typos, abbreviation issues: -1 score per error
• Ties are resolved by subjective votes of 3 organizers.
