Ahmad Rifai began his journey in activism as an organizer for marginalized urban communities. With nearly 20 years of experience in the NGO sector, he has cultivated a strong portfolio in areas such as project management, urban governance, urban informality, poverty alleviation, participatory budgeting, and participatory planning. He co-founded the Kota Kita Foundation alongside John Taylor and other colleagues and has served as its Executive Director since 2016. Under his leadership, the foundation has gained prominence for its work in fostering citizen participation in urban development across Indonesia. Rifai holds an MA from UIN Yogyakarta and an MSc in Social Development Practice from the Development Planning Unit (DPU) at University College London.
