Health Screenings

Dental Examinations

A dental examination is required every year for all children K-5.  If your child sees a dentist regularly, they do not have to be screened by the school dentist. You need to provide the school nurse with the name of your dentist and the date of  last or next appointment.  If your child is screened, a green card will be sent home in their  backpack unless a referral is necessary. All referrals are mailed. Please follow up with a dentist for further evaluation and proper dental care.

Hearing Screenings

All children in Grades K, 1, 2 and 3 have a hearing screening done at school, according to the Rhode Island State law. If your child performs unsatisfactorily a referral letter is mailed home. Please follow-up with an examine by your own doctor or an audiologist. The Rhode Island State Hearing Center at the Rhode Island School for the Deaf will do the screening at no cost. The completed form should be returned to the school nurse, so the results can be recorded in the child's health records.

Vision Screenings

All children in grades K-5 will have a vision screening annually.  If your  child performs unsatisfactorily, a referral letter is mailed  home. Please follow up with an eye doctor and return the form to the school nurse.
