MS in Aquaculture (2010) - Ghent University (Thesis: Molecular Genetics)
MPhil in Fisheries (2007) - University of Dhaka (Thesis: Aquaculture)

Background
Dr. Miah earned the class prize on completing his Bachelor's degree in Zoology at the National University of Bangladesh, and remained there to complete an MSc in Zoology and again, he secured the class prize (1st class with 1st position). Later he moved to the University of Dhaka, where he did an MPhil and worked on aquaculture. He then moved to Belgium to receive a specialized master's degree in aquaculture from the Ghent University. While at Ghent, he got fascinated about molecular biology, prompting him to seek a research role in molecular genetics.
Dr. Miah was all the while willing to serve his country. So, after the completion of his specialization in molecular genetics from Belgium, he came back to Bangladesh to start his PhD in Zoology/Aquaculture. As a doctoral researcher at the University of Dhaka, Dr. Miah focused on implementing molecular genetic approaches to the reproductive biology and conservation of Monopterus cuchia, a fresh-water mud eel endemic to Bangladesh. His work at the University of Dhaka led to a novel insight into the genetic diversity and artificial breeding of M. cuchia.
Additionally, Dr. Miah is involved in several social activities. He is the founder and chairman of The Glorious PDM, a social welfare organization in Bangladesh (www.gpdmaid.com).
Current Role and Research Interests
In his current role as Professor in Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology at Shahjalal University of Science and Technology, Dr. Miah uses genetic and biotechnological approaches to understand and treat immunology and reproductive biology of economically important fish species at a molecular level. He also involves several classical and cutting-edge techniques to dig deeper into the physiology of these fish species.
Apart from molecular aquaculture, he focuses closely on the genetic background of hemoglobin diseases in Human. His lab at the Shahjalal University facilitates a seaweed research core, fruit fly research facility and a parasite research unit.
Dr. Miah has authored 7 text books and published ~50 peer-reviewed research articles in national and international journals.
Teaching Interests
