PRIVACY POLICY — PDF Editor
Last updated: July 13, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how appmerge ("we," "us," or "our") handles information in connection with the PDF Editor mobile application (the "App"). We built the App to be privacy-first: your documents are processed on your device, and we collect as little personal information as possible. By downloading or using the App, you agree to this Policy.
1. OUR PRIVACY-FIRST APPROACH
The App is designed to work locally on your device. Editing, annotating, signing, scanning, OCR (text recognition), merging, splitting, page management, and standard file conversion happen entirely on your device using Apple frameworks. Your documents are NOT uploaded to our servers for these operations, and we do not read, sell, or share the contents of your files.
2. INFORMATION WE COLLECT
a) Documents and file content
Your files and their contents stay on your device. We do not collect or store them on our servers. Two exceptions, which only occur if you choose to use them:
- iCloud sync: if enabled, your documents are stored in your own private iCloud account (Apple CloudKit). We cannot access this content; it is governed by Apple's iCloud terms and privacy policy.
- AI features: see Section 4.
b) Account information
If you sign in (for example, with Sign in with Apple), we receive the identifiers you authorize, which may include a name and an email or a private relay email address. You can use most of the App without an account.
c) Purchase and subscription information
Purchases and subscriptions are processed by Apple. We use a subscription management provider (AppActor) to verify and manage entitlements. This involves an anonymous app user identifier and non-personal purchase data (product ID, purchase/renewal status, price, country). We do not receive your full payment card details.
d) AI feature data
When you use AI features (such as proofread, rewrite, translate, summarize, or template generation), the specific text you submit is sent to our AI processing service to generate a result and return it to you. See Section 4.
e) Usage, diagnostics, and crash data
We may collect anonymous or pseudonymous analytics and diagnostic data — such as app version, device model, operating system version, feature usage, performance metrics, and crash reports — to keep the App stable and improve it. This does not include the contents of your documents.
f) Device identifiers and marketing attribution
With your permission (see Section 6), we may use device identifiers (such as the IDFA) and Apple Search Ads attribution data to measure the effectiveness of our marketing and understand how users find the App.
3. HOW WE USE INFORMATION
We use the limited information above to:
- Provide, operate, and maintain the App and its features;
- Deliver and manage your subscription and restore purchases;
- Provide AI-assisted results you request;
- Diagnose crashes, fix bugs, and improve performance and features;
- Measure marketing and understand aggregate usage;
- Comply with legal obligations and enforce our terms.
We do not use your document contents to train AI models, and we do not sell your personal information.
4. AI FEATURES
AI features are optional. When you invoke them, only the text you choose to process is transmitted, over an encrypted connection, to our AI processing service (an OpenAI-compatible provider) solely to generate the requested output. This data is used only to provide the result. We do not use it to build advertising profiles, and it is not used to train foundation models. Do not submit information you would not want processed by a third-party AI service. AI output may be inaccurate; please review results before relying on them.
5. HOW INFORMATION IS SHARED
We share information only with service providers who help us operate the App, and only as needed:
- Apple — App Store purchases, subscriptions, Sign in with Apple, iCloud storage, push notifications;
- AppActor — subscription/entitlement management;
- Our AI processing provider — to deliver AI feature results;
- Analytics and crash-reporting providers (e.g., Firebase Crashlytics) — to keep the App reliable;
- Apple Search Ads — marketing attribution.
We may also disclose information if required by law, to protect our rights, or in connection with a business transfer. We do not sell your personal information.
6. TRACKING AND YOUR CHOICES (ATT)
On first launch, we ask for your permission via Apple's App Tracking Transparency prompt before using device identifiers for marketing attribution. If you decline, we do not use the IDFA for tracking, and the App remains fully functional. You can change this any time in iOS Settings > Privacy & Security > Tracking. You can also disable analytics and personalized features where offered in the App settings.
7. DATA RETENTION
We keep personal information only as long as necessary for the purposes described here or as required by law. Documents remain on your device (and in your iCloud, if enabled) until you delete them. Anonymous analytics and diagnostics are retained in aggregated or limited form. Subscription records are retained as required for accounting and platform compliance.
8. SECURITY
We use appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect information, including on-device processing, encrypted network connections (HTTPS/TLS), and platform security features such as the device keychain and, where you enable it, Face ID / Touch ID / passcode lock for the App. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
9. YOUR RIGHTS
Depending on where you live (for example, under the EU/UK GDPR or the California CCPA/CPRA), you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or port your personal information, to object to or restrict certain processing, to withdraw consent, and to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority. Because most data stays on your device, you can exercise many of these rights directly by deleting files or the App. For other requests, contact us at the email below and we will respond as required by law. We do not discriminate against you for exercising your rights.
10. CHILDREN'S PRIVACY
The App is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your jurisdiction), and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
11. INTERNATIONAL DATA TRANSFERS
Our service providers may process limited data in countries other than yours, including the United States. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards (such as Standard Contractual Clauses) for these transfers.
12. THIRD-PARTY SERVICES
The App relies on third-party platforms and services (including Apple) that have their own privacy policies. This Policy does not cover the practices of those third parties, and we encourage you to review their policies.
13. CHANGES TO THIS POLICY
We may update this Policy from time to time. We will post the updated version with a new "Last updated" date and, where appropriate, notify you in the App. Your continued use of the App after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated Policy.
