How to Create a WCS “Dance Routine” for Social Dancing.
First of all remember the Acronym CASL…Connection, Anchor, Stretch, Lead.
You have 2 “partners” on the dance floor….the one attached to the end of your arm, and the MUSIC.
Pushes…6 Count Pattern…I refer to them as the “thinking” move. Its easy to lead a Push Break or a Sugar Push while your thinking about your next more complicated move!
Passes… 6 Count Pattern
• Right Side Pass…(aka Under Arm Pass). leader brings the follower past their Right shoulder
• Left Side Pass….Leader brings follower down the slot ,past their Left shoulder
Whips ….8 Count Pattern
• The leader brings the follower down the slot past them and sends the follower back up the slot from whence they came!!!
ALL OTHER MOVES BUILD OFF OF THESE BASIC MOVES….
Leaders when you’re starting out social dancing try to make a dance “routine” for yourself. Here’s a suggestion that might help…
• Think…Push, do a Sugar Push, then do a Pass, do a Left Side Pass, then do a Right Side Pass, then Whip…do a Basic Whip…Start over…
• Push. (variation)…do a Sugar Tuck, Pass ,do a Left Side Pass with a turn, do a Right Side Pass with a Waist Catch and Lunge, then do a Whip…do a Basket Whip..Start Over with another variation of A Push, A Pass and A Whip
If you can’t think of something to do…do a Sugar Push! It keeps you on the beat and gives you a chance to think!
Variations…
• Pushes….Sugar Push, Push Break (Tuck Turn ), Sugar Push w/hand change leader’s head wrap,
• Passes…Left Side Pass, LS Pass w/ Tuck Turn, LS Pass w/ underarm turn. • Right Side Pass, RS Pass with a redirect, RS Pass w/outside turn and a waist catch
• Whips…Basic Whip, Basket Whip , Same Side Whip
