WV DHHR WV Works/TANF students! 

 

If you are a student and a parent, you might qualify for assistance through WV DHHR.

Families and children may qualify for support through the WV WORKS program.  The mission of our office’s DHHR Student Services Coordinator is to assist WVWORKS/TANF participants in their college admissions process and to provide individual assistance in helping students receive academic advising, career services, and other support to enhance their opportunities for success and degree completion.

Boot Camp

Boot Camp is an Intro to College to help DHHR students succeed in college.

Boot Camp consists of self-help modules that can be viewed using a computer, tablet, or phone.

DHHR requires their students to complete the modules.

 The WV Department of Health and Human Resources (WV DHHR) comprises the central offices of Client Services; Family Support; and Social Services and the following county offices where clients may seek assistance. This local office provides family assistance by administering the following programs:

Emergency Assistance

The Emergency Assistance Program is used to assist individuals and families in meeting a financial crises when they are without available resources. The program is designed to provide short-term emergency financial assistance.

Burial Assistance

The burial assistance program assists with payment up to $1250 toward the cost of funeral expenses for an indigent adult or child. The program benefits are determined by the burial rate and, when applicable.

Electronic Benefit Transfer

EBT local office that provides Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP Food Stamps), WV WORKS, Diversionary Cash Assistance and the Child Support Incentive benefits by use of a card to access a benefit account. This method of benefit receipt replaces Food Stamp coupons.

Medicaid

Medicaid provides medical care in the community or in an institutional setting, such as a nursing home, to individuals who otherwise may not be able to afford the care. A variety of services are provided, according to state and federal guidelines, depending upon the individual or family circumstances.

Utility Assistance

The Low Income Energy Assistance Program (LIEAP) assists eligible households with the cost of home heating through direct cash payments or payments to utility companies on their behalf. A crisis component is available for households without resources.

Medicaid, WVCHIP, Medicaid for Long-Term-Care, Medicare Premium Assistance Programs, Non-Emergency Medical Transportation (NEMT), Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), Emergency Assistance,  Indigent Burial Program, Refugee Resettlement, Tel-Assistance, SNAP E&T, Low Income Energy Assistance Program (LIEAP), 20% Discount Utility program, Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF), School Clothing Allowance (SCA) and Other Needs Assistance Disaster Programs. 

Social Services

Adoption, Adult Guardianship, Adult Protective Services, Adult Residential Care, Child Abuse Awareness and Prevention, Child Protective Services, Child Welfare Licensing, Domestic Violence Services, Foster Care, Health Care Surrogate, Homeless Services, Interstate Compact on the Placement of Children, Specialized Family Care, Subsidized Legal Guardianship, Unclaimed Deceased Bodies, Youth Services, and Youth Transitioning Services. 

Early Care and Education: Licensing of Child Care Centers and Family Child Care Facilities, Registration of Family Child Care Homes, Registration of Out of School Time Programs, Provide Subsidy Services to eligible families for child care, Technical assistance to child care providers, and Tiered Reimbursement system for high quality child care services.
