There are numerous research opportunities for the orthopedic residents at PCOM.
We have the opportunity to work with many fellowship-trained attending surgeons who are actively involved in academic research and publish regularly in highly respected peer-reviewed journals.
Several of our residents have recently been published in JAAOS, JBJS, CORR, JOT, JOA, Orthopedics, and Spine.
One of our residents' research projects won the 2018 John Charnley Hip Society award, which was honored at the annual AAOS meeting in 2017.
We are also encouraged to present posters and give podium presentations throughout the country.
Our residents have had podium presentations in England, France, and Italy.
We have a resident research curriculum that provides residents with structured objectives to guide their research endeavors with the goal of publishing multiple research projects in peer-reviewed journals by graduation of residency.
We start our residents early in developing their research and publication skills. Interns are expected to publish a systematic review on a topic of their choosing by the end of their first year. They work closely with our chief of research, Dr Wetzler, and the research chief residents to accomplish this goal.
