Meet Expectations:
Athletes are expected to attend all eligible competition meets for the season. Additionally, swimmers are encouraged to attend dive meets and divers are encouraged to attend swim meets. If an athlete will be absent from a meet, they are expected to complete the meet absence form at least 1 week prior to the meet date AND email Coach Derek & Coach Dana. Include the date of the meet that you will be absent and the reasoning (year round/club meet, family vacation, etc.). We recognize that illnesses and unforeseen circumstances arise. If it is less than 1 week prior to the meet date, please message Coach Derek & Coach Dana in the GroupMe chat. Last minute no-shows and unexcused absence notices are subject to the consequences listed under team expectations.
Swimmers may swim up to 2 individual events and 2 relays events during regular season meets. As needed, swimmers may swim 1 individual event and 3 relay events (limited basis). Coaching staff determine events for each athlete. There will be NO day-of changes, with the exception of those due to unforeseen circumstances.

Family Volunteering:
Each family is expected to volunteer at least once during the season as a timer, runner, stroke and turn official, or starting official. PCHS needs at least one family member to serve as an official during the season. If families are not able to attend meets, we ask families to provide their own food or drinks for their athletes during the season. Together, we can support the athletes :)
All meet volunteers, who are not WCPSS, JCPS, or Cardinal Gibbons employees are required to be an approved WCPSS volunteer. Instructions on how to register as a volunteer are available at this link. Please forward your confirmation or a screenshot of the approval to Coach Derek & Coach Dana at least 1 day prior to the meet. We only need the confirmation sent once during the season.
The team is expected to have two parents/guardian representatives registered as a paid referee for swim or dive meets each year. Directions in getting registered and certified can be found here: Becoming An Official - NCHSAA. Following the step-by-step instructions and choose CENTRAL swimming & diving as your association in DragonFly in order to work the Wake County meets. Please note: there is no longer an option to simply volunteer at the events. Anyone on the pool deck who is a meet referee, stroke and turn, or diving judge MUST be NCHSAA certified.

In order to participate in the NCHSAA 8A Regional Championship, athletes are required to achieve the following time standards or faster during a high school regular season meet or Conference Championship meet. The automatic cuts are individuals that will automatically qualify to compete in Regionals. The consideration cuts are the minimum requirement to be considered in a bidding style process where the top 24 times entered by coaches will compete. The faster the swim, the more likely you are to go to regionals.
