For this entry, you will write a science fiction story. It is due Monday, February 20, 2023.
SCIENCE FICTION is a fiction story where the setting and plot are centered around technology, time travel, outer space, or scientific principles, with or without the presence of aliens. Story elements are not found in the known universe and explained by scientific means. The story typically deal with aliens, outer space, time travel, future worlds, or scientific experiments gone wrong. Themes frequently deal with good or evil, often involving technology.
Glad you asked! A quick review:
Plot: The primary events might really happen, based upon current scientific facts that we know to be true.
Setting: The tale generally takes place in the near or distant future, on Earth, or another location that real scientists have theorized may exist.
Problem: The characters solve the dilemma through using actual scientific data.
Characters: The characters are fictional, but their actions make sense from a scientific point of view.
The classic elements of a science fiction novel include:
Time travel
Teleportation
Aliens, extraterrestrial lifeforms
Space travel and exploration
Fictional worlds
Fictional technology
Super intelligent computers and robots
The specific requirements are as follows:
The story can be written as a short story, graphic novel, comic book, play, video, etc.
You must submit your entry by Monday, February 20, 2023 in order to give our mentors time to read it. You may submit it through email at rebeccad@wcs.edu or a hard copy delivered to Mrs. Dorsten.
Since these will be read by other adults, please type them if at all possible. If you can't, for instance if you're making a comic book, then your neatest writing is a must.
There is no minimum or maximum length for any entry, but the quality should be "grade level appropriate".
You may include illustrations in your written stories.
Along with the hard copy, you will need to make some form of display to be presented at the Innovation Expo.
Your display may include:
a description of the entry (an outline, a storyboard, etc.)
a copy of the actual story/entry. If you can't make a copy of your entry, please let me know and we'll make adjustments.
***I want to strongly encourage you to read this excellent resource on Epic! Type in "How to Write Science Fiction". If you need a class code, your teacher probably has one, but you can email me for mine. ***
