Mr. Huff has been at Panther Creek High School for 13 years and currently serves as a Career and Technical Education (CTE) teacher, teaching Adobe Visual Design and preparing students for industry-recognized Adobe certifications. After 5 years of chaperoning MCEC, CDC, and ICDC events, the draw to DECA is one of the main reasons became a CTE Teacher. Prior to transitioning into CTE, he spent eleven years at Panther Creek teaching AP and Honors Psychology in Social Studies and served as the Social Studies Department Chair for seven years. He was also recognized as Panther Creek High School’s Teacher of the Year in 2022. 

Mr. Huff’s professional experience extends beyond the classroom into leadership and public service. He previously worked with the North Carolina General Assembly, and he also served as the Executive Director of the Young Marines Alumni Association. He served as a training and education consultant for the Young Marines national youth organization helping write curriculum and training youth members at leadership schools across the country. In the classroom and as an advisor for Panther Creek DECA, Mr. Huff emphasizes creativity, leadership development, career readiness, and meaningful real-world experiences that prepare students for success beyond high school. 

Outside of education, Mr. Huff is a professional photographer and owner of Edgar Huff Photography, specializing in high school media day photography and senior portraiture.

​Hi there! I am Shekevia Washington. I have been in the role of an educator for the past 8 years. I enjoy inspiring and guiding students toward success. After six years in the classroom, I transitioned into my current role as the Career Development Coordinator, where I help students discover their passions and create pathways to achieve their academic, personal, and professional goals. During the summer, I work as a teaching assistant for the Duke Pre-College Program, supporting high school students in enriching academic experiences. Outside of work, I like staying active, experimenting in the kitchen, and spending quality time with my family. I also love participating and supporting community events in the Triangle area.

I have been in education for 25 years as a teacher, instructional director and principal, and this year I’m excited to step into a new role as a co-advisor for our DECA chapter. While my background is in science rather than Career and Technical Education, I’ve always believed that some of the most important things we teach students go far beyond a particular subject.

In my science classrooms, students are constantly solving problems, working with others, analyzing information, communicating their ideas, and figuring out what to do when things don’t go exactly as planned. Those are skills that matter in science, in business, and, honestly, in just about everything we do.

One of the things I enjoy most about teaching is helping students build confidence and discover that they are capable of more than they sometimes believe. I’m excited to bring that perspective to DECA and to help students develop their communication, leadership, problem-solving, and professional skills. I’m also looking forward to learning right alongside our students and seeing where their ideas and ambitions take them.

I may be a science teacher, but I’m excited to be part of DECA because I believe our job as educators is ultimately the same: to help students find their strengths, take some risks, and leave us a little more confident and prepared for whatever comes next.

15 Years Teaching

5 Years in Business

Mr. May joined Panther Creek High School in 2024 and is excited to transition into the CTE department this semester, teaching Marketing and Microsoft Excel Honors alongside his new role as a DECA Co-Advisor.

With 15 total years in education, including 12 years as an English teacher, and 5 years of industry experience across risk management, hospitality operations, and project management, he brings a practical, well-rounded perspective to the classroom. Combining a strong background in English with real-world business experience helps students structure clear written reports, refine pitch decks, and present confidently during DECA role-plays.

In his first semester with Panther Creek DECA, Mr. May looks forward to supporting students as they explore their business interests and get ready for club events. Outside of school, he enjoys watching sports, spending time with his wife, and taking their two dogs on adventures.
