Launch for this section:
First we are going to analyze some raw data. First and foremost should be noticing patterns. For example, what group is growing the fastest? Second, students need to determine if this information is accurate and realiable. For example, why wasn't Asian peoples counted in some years: Was it because they were not here or was it because they were not counted or were they counted in another category?
Students will make a graph on Google docs (tech skills!) and make generalizations about their observations.
Once students are comfortable with their graph, give students the ACTUAL source page so they can find the missing data themselves, and notice patterns again.
So, basically, this is a little introduction to how change can be represented: as a graph. However, the end of this project, we want it represented as a piece of art.
