A local walking group was set up for people with Huntington’s disease as part of a research project in 2018. The results of the project were published and can be read here. We interviewed all people involved in the walking group. People with Huntington’s disease enjoyed taking part in the walks and felt more confident in being active outside. Everyone involved with the walking group felt that apathy, reduced planning skills, social stigma and movement problems were challenges to taking part in and continuing with the walking group. The research highlighted that further work is needed to explore support that could be provided by carers, healthcare providers or non-profit organisations to co-ordinate and potentially lead activities that match the needs of the person with Huntington’s disease. Below are some examples of the feedback we received from the participants of the walking group.
