Learners: Teachers newly joining CLE Trust, many from diverse teaching and cultural backgrounds.
Need: CLE required a structured onboarding module to ensure all teachers understood its mission, vision, values, professional expectations, and child safety policies. Previously, new hires relied on fragmented documents and verbal orientation, which led to inconsistency in understanding organizational standards. Additionally, since some teachers join mid-year, program leads may not always have the time to conduct onboarding or orientation, making a self-paced, standardized module essential.
Constraints: The module had to be concise, engaging, and accessible for teachers with varying levels of digital comfort. Delivery had to work across devices and be easy to update as policies evolved.
Learning Objectives / Course Breakup:
While formal learning objectives were defined for design and documentation, the course itself began with a clear course breakup (module outline). This approach presented the objectives in a learner-friendly way, helping teachers see upfront what they would explore (mission & vision, values in practice, professional expectations, child safety, and reporting protocols) without abstract instructional language.
Instructional Design Approach:
Applied the ADDIE model with emphasis on analysis (learner background and organizational goals).
Conducted a survey with existing teachers to identify gaps, needs, pain points, challenges, feedback, and best practices; these insights were incorporated into the course design.
Used scenario-based quizzes and reflection prompts to encourage active engagement.
Chunked content into digestible sections (mission, core values, expectations, policies) to reduce cognitive overload.
Tools Used:
Developed in Articulate Storyline 360 and shared via Articulate Review for stakeholder feedback and iterative refinement.
Key Features:
A warm, narrative introduction welcoming teachers and connecting them to CLE’s broader mission.
Knowledge checks and Quiz to reinforce knowledge of CLE’s story, core values, and policies.
Multimedia assets including photos and videos from CLE programs (e.g., girls’ empowerment sessions, live classes).
Testimonials from program leads, teachers, and students about CLE programs and their impact, giving new teachers authentic insight into the culture and lived values of the organization.
A visual storyline guiding learners step by step through policies, expectations, and role-modeling practices.
Content designed to be concise, engaging, and accessible across devices for teachers with varying digital comfort.
Outcomes & Impact:
Ensured consistency in onboarding by replacing fragmented documents and ad-hoc orientations.
Provided a self-paced module that supports mid-year hires without requiring program lead availability.
Strengthened teachers’ understanding of child safety, professionalism, and CLE values, leading to more aligned practices across classrooms.
Testimonies highlighted how CLE’s programs empower students and communities, helping new teachers appreciate the broader impact of their role.
Reduced onboarding time and helped teachers feel more connected to CLE’s mission and culture from the start.
A video clip featured in the Teacher Empowerment Program slides to give teachers an overview of the program.
A quick glimpse of teacher responsibilities, to be explored in the following learnings.
I led the instructional design and development of the CLE Trust onboarding module. My responsibilities included conducting a needs analysis (through surveys with existing teachers), defining learning objectives, designing the course structure and flow, and developing the module in Articulate Storyline 360. I also integrated multimedia assets and created interactive elements like quizzes and scenarios to make the experience engaging.
To ensure accuracy and alignment with CLE’s values and policies, I worked closely with:
Program Leads – to gather insights on organizational mission, culture, and expectations.
Teachers – to collect feedback on gaps, challenges, and best practices.
Stakeholders/Reviewers – for iterative feedback via Articulate Review.
Multimedia team – for sourcing and integrating photos and videos from CLE programs.
